Who to Call
Sunflower Fact Sheet
-
Daycare workers & families at 2 locations in Windsor Terrace were notified on Fri 1/20 that there was no more $ to pay workers and the daycare was shutting down.
-
Workers had to text the families. There was no "official" notice.
-
The owner of the daycare died the following day, Sat. 1/21. She died of cancer.
-
Following her death, Ilene's Sunflower Daycare LLC's daycare license is no longer valid
-
Families and workers had no idea Sunflower was in serious financial trouble or that the owner was in hospice
-
DOH has given 30+ families less than 1 week to find childcare, extending the license only through Friday
-
Leading up to the owner's death, workers had not been paid for 3 week. They are owed more than $14,000
-
Families had made deposits and payments for future childcare. Some paid in advance for care through May 2017. In totally families are owed more than $94,000
-
The owner's son had collected money as corresponded with families days before his mother died. At least one check from a family was cashed 1/17
-
The affected families and workers are trying to work together and help each other out. Some goals: Get daycares re-licensed ASAP (but need help of city officials), help workers get paid for their lost wages, collect lost payments for families, transition to a worker-run daycare with help from The Working World.
Below is a list of local and state representatives to call about keeping our daycare open.
